Agham na Ramdam para sa Lahat: New Season of Siyensikat Showcases the Impact of S&T in Communities
Science should no longer be confined to laboratories. It thrives in communities, providing solutions and opening opportunities. This is the heart of Siyensikat: Pinoy Popular Science para sa Lahat, which returns this September for its eight season.
This season, Siyensikat continues to share stories of how science, technology, and innovation serve as powerful tools for progress. From improving disaster preparedness and addressing the challenges of climate change to offering solutions in waste management and environmental protection, the program highlights how science and technology become both a lifeline and a source of hope for many Filipinos.
In its pilot episode, the program will feature the mangrove biodiversity of Del Carmen, Siargao, and how studies by the Department of Science and Technology through the National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) have raised greater awareness among residents and youth about the crucial role of mangroves in protecting their environment and community.
Siyensikat will also spotlight the long-standing water crisis in Silaki Island, Bolinao, Pangasinan, and how the installation of a solar-powered water desalination facility through the DOST Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program has provided a sustainable solution for the community.
Staying true to DOST’s mission of providing solutions and opportunities for all, Siyensikat will also tell the story of Persons Deprived of Liberty in San Jose, Antique, whose lives are being transformed through science and education. With the help of the DOST CEST program, they have been given livelihood opportunities through a baking facility and the rare chance to pursue higher education under the “College Education Behind Bars” program.
More than just a science show, Siyensikat: Pinoy Popular Science para sa Lahat is a 30-minute journey into the lives of ordinary people who find extraordinary hope in science and technology. It is a celebration of stories where science is not distant or abstract, but is real and felt in every community it touches.
The program is hosted by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., together with co-host Jiego Reyes.
