Filipinos will get to watch some short videos featuring Siargao’s diverse flora and fauna species in the coming 2021 DOST National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).

The video animation, which creatively showcases the funded basic research results, aims to foster science culture among the youth, community members, and even officials from the local government units (LGUs).

“We want the public to know more about the S&T discoveries and breakthroughs of Filipino innovators, researchers, scientists, and technologists, while at the same time informing our policymakers that this is where the funding goes, and that there is actually a return in investing through basic research programs,” Marieta B. Sumagaysay, Director of the National Research Council of the Philippines, Department of Science and Technology (DOST-NRCP), said.

The seven video titles are the following: (1) Birds:Truly Feathered Buddies; (2) Mammals: Hot Blooded Pals; (3) Reptiles: Cold Blooded Pals; (4) Anthropods: Legged Crawlies; (5) Amphibians: Google-eyed Critters; (6) Crustaceans: Shelled Critters; and Fish: Deep Sea Swimmers.

The short-animated videos can be viewed between 23-25 November at 11-12 noon via online.

The theme for this year’s National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) is “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon.” For more information and updates regarding the 2021 NSTW virtual celebration, please visit www.nstw.dost.gov.ph and its official Facebook page or send your inquiries to the 2021 NSTW Secretariat at nstw.secretariat@gmail.com and nstwpromotions@gmail.com.
