Taguig City, Metro Manila - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has approved a new program called “Science and Technology (S&T) Fellows”, to create a pool of S&T experts and innovators or "fellows", which will boost its research and development (R&D) capacity.

“With the country’s fight against COVID-19, we realized the need to double our S&T human resources here in our own home at DOST,” Sec. Fortunato T. de la Peña.

Set to be officially launched on November 2021, the new project needs 68 S&T Fellows to be assigned in the different R&D institutes and Councils of the Department.

“The S&T fellows are expected to participate in the conceptualization, policy and funding development, and monitoring and evaluation of various R&D programs and projects,” added Sec. de la Peña.

The open positions for the first year of implementation are S&T Fellows I and II (MS graduates) and S&T Fellows III (Ph.D. graduates).

The S&T Fellows Program is one of the programs included in the Big 21 in 2021 event scheduled to be launched on 07 September, 10:00AM, to be broadcast live at the DOST Philippines Facebook page which aims to showcase new technologies and programs that will bring change in the coming years.

“It has always been the goal of R&D to deliver lasting change for the benefit of the people. Now more than ever, we need more S&T outputs that provide social and economic impact, and we need experts to do that,” expressed Undersecretary for Research and Development Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara.
