PHIVOLCS ‘unboxed’, showcases more disaster technologies at the 2021 NSTW image

Kicking off the 2021 National Science and Technology Week #2021NSTW of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the DOST’s Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) presents a virtual tour that showcases the DOST-PHIVOLCS headquarters in Quezon City from its exterior façade and aerial view to its lobby exhibit area and data receiving center for both earthquake, tsunami and volcano monitoring.

This 360-degree virtual exhibit tour is web-based and accessible to students; teachers and everyone to appreciate better the many innovations developed by DOST-PHIVOLCS to keep our communities safer during the occurrence of natural hazards. DOST-PHIVOLCS will also hold a three-day talk series titled “PHIVOLCS Talk” that will feature the volcano monitoring techniques, earthquake scenarios and practical tools on hazard awareness via webinar and will be open to the public through PHIVOLCS official website, www.facebook.com/PHIVOLCS.

The first talk series will start on Wednesday, November 24 that features Volcano Monitoring System of the Philippines’ Most Active Volcanoes, followed by Searching for the BIG ONE: Understanding Earthquake Scenarios in the Philippines on Thursday, November 25 and lastly on Friday, November 26 that will feature Practical tools on Hazards Assessment for Individual and Family Preparedness. This webinar activities aim to increase awareness and heighten preparedness of various stakeholders to these geologic hazards amidst the pandemic.
