To further promote international cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) together with the Philippine Space Agency and the University of the Philippines Visayas, pursued a productive dialogue with respective Hungarian colleagues with lead representation from the Embassy of Hungary in Manila.

DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña believes that the activity is a good platform to present the current programs of both countries in the fields of aquaculture, space technology, and S&T human resource development. The Secretary further underscored the notable efforts and great potential of Hungary in enriching and leveraging science, technology, and innovation particularly its research and development arm.

On the other hand, Her Excellency Titanilla Tóth shared her positive feedback towards the enthusiasm and interest of both countries to begin and offer limitless opportunities to both their fellowmen. The Ambassador is likewise confident that the dialogue further boosted the communication between the Philippine and Hungarian stakeholders that will possibly lead the partnerships on common projects and initiatives.

The discussion led to the exploration of collaboration in the following, but not limited,

to these topics:

  1. Aquaculture genetics and breeding
  2. Sustainable aquaculture
  3. Upstream applications of space technologies
  4. Spectrum monitoring
  5. Tropical aquaculture/fisheries visit of Hungarian scholars at the University of the Philippines in Visayas
  6. Foreign Scholarship Program

As a way forward, both sides agreed to prepare and ink a Memorandum of Understanding and seal the commitment to pursue further collaborations.
