Despite the challenges brought about by CoVID-19 and the New Normal, the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST-XI), through its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Davao del Sur (PSTC DS), capitalized on new opportunities of extending assistance to two enterprises in Davao del Sur through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
Improvements brought by DOST’s S&T interventions were evident during the on-site project visit of Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III, Regional Director of DOST-XI last 17 March 2022.
Maru Farm Development Corporation, a poultry dressing plant located in Inawayan, Sta. Cruz, was assisted by DOST-XI in acquiring various equipment for the upgrading of its poultry dressing facilities under SETUP. The firm was also able to avail of DOST’s Halal Assessment Consultancy Program and received training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for all its workforce.
On the other hand, Jopoy’s Special Hopia, a manufacturer of monggo, ube, durian, and pineapple hopia in Digos City, acquired various production equipment for the mechanization of its production process which led to improvement of its productivity and product quality. DOST-XI also provided assistance for the laboratory and nutritional facts analyses of their products as well as free consultancy services such as Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX), Plant Layout, and GMP Assessment.
SETUP is a national program of DOST that aims to provide financial assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for the acquisition of equipment and technologies that will improve their existing production and processes. In addition, technical assistance is also given through DOST’s consultancy services and trainings that aim to improve business operations and processes. SETUP is being implemented by all DOST regional offices across the country. (DOST XI S&T Information and Promotion)
