EAST LA Inc. wins Best SETUP Adoptor Award during Davao regional science week 2021
DAVAO CITY – As one of the highlights of the 2021 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration, the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST-XI) awarded the Best Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Adoptor for Davao Region to EAST LA Inc. during a virtual ceremony last 5 November 2021.
EAST LA Inc. bested five other shortlisted SETUP Adoptors in the different provinces of the Davao Region with its outstanding demonstration of productivity, resilience, agility, innovativeness, sustainability, and excellence amidst the challenges of the pandemic.
The firm is a small family-owned corporation headed by its president and CEO, Ernest Karl L. Chua. Established in 2013, it started out exclusively in trading of cleaning and sanitation products catering to institutional clients. It later expanded to manufacturing their own cleaning products, thus transitioning the business to become both as trader and manufacturer.
In 2017, EAST LA Inc. applied for SETUP intervention to address the increasing demand and lack of equipment for a mechanized and more efficient manufacturing process. Aside from the technology acquisition, the enterprise was provided with other interventions to improve product quality and marketability, increase productivity, and enhance their over-all competitiveness in the market.
With all the S&T interventions provided under SETUP, EAST LA Inc. currently enjoys bigger operation and wider market scope through its broad range of cleaning products.
During the Enhanced Community Quarantine, EAST LA Inc. also extended support to the frontliners by way of providing gallons of hand sanitizers to Southern Medical Philippines Center and to police and the military personnel stationed in various checkpoints and other public areas.
As the Best SETUP Adoptor for Davao Region, EAST LA Inc. received the plaque of recognition and cash incentive worth Php 20,000. The enterprise will also represent Davao Region in the nationwide search for Best SETUP Adopter to be held during the celebration of the 2021 National Science and Technology Week to be held from 22-28 November 2021 virtually, carrying the theme, “Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon”.
