The eleventh episode of Agyamanak: Makabayang Iskolar Ako! program invites aspiring students throughout the region to be part of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) community.

One of the goals of the PSHS system is to mold one’s character and development through science, technology, and innovation that has always been the top priority of this premier science educational institution. The PSHS system continues to ensure the development of world class scientist-leaders and nation-builders with underlying compassion for the people and for more generations to come.

To serve as an inspiration and mentor for the youth, the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) scholar-graduates and currently PSHS employees were invited to share their journey and experiences as a Makabayang Iskolar and as a PISAY Iskolar.

Ma. Winde Carl Leonen, Special Science Teacher II, Jerick A. Viz, Special Science Teacher I, Ronnie John A. Pascua, Special Science Teacher III, Franz Jeramienne B. Lacangan, Special Science Teacher III and Jonalyn S. Albano of the PSHS – Ilocos Region Campus, delightedly shared their experiences and how DOST changed their perception and ideologies in life. One of their pieces of advice for the students is to prioritize the things that they are passionate about. Also, they encouraged everyone to choose a course that they are deeply interested in.

As Jonalyn mentioned, “Bawat Iskolar ng Pisay can develop Pisay qualities that are integral to personal growth and maturity. These qualities are Patriotism, Integrity, Service, Academic Excellence and Youth Leadership.”

In addition, the many benefits and privileges of being a Pisay scholar were highlighted: free tuition fee, free loan for textbooks, uniform and transportation allowance (for Full Scholars), monthly stipend, minimal dormitory fee, and free use of school facilities and laboratories.
