Electoral Boards of (EBs) who will serve in the upcoming national election in May are currently undergoing the simultaneous certification program conducted by the Department of Science and Technology Region IX.

There are about 7,662 Electoral Board Members (EBMs) in the region, composed of teachers from the Department of Education who were chosen based on the criteria enforced by the Commission on Election (COMELEC). Meanwhile, there are 14 DOST Certifiers dispensed in the mentioned four (4) areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

DOST is the sole agency mandated by law to implement the Certification Program through the amended RA # 9369. It states that AES (Automated Election System) shall be adopted, and at least one member of the Board of Election Inspectors shall be an information technology-capable person who is trained or certified by the DOST to use the AES.
The DOST’s EB certification process has two parts: the online theoretical examination, which you can access through ebcertify.dost.gov.ph and the practical examination.

Furthermore, health and safety protocols against the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic are being observed during the entire duration of the certification program.
