The Department of Science and Technology – Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology Region I (DOST-I) and the Department of Education Central Office (DepEd) conducted a training and orientation on Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) usage and administration for DepEd regional and divisional information technology officers on 24 January 2023, at Ynad’s Place Resort and Hotel, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Llyod Frederick Mandapat, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-STII presented the overview of STARBOOKS emphasizing its purpose which is to give free offline multiple access to all contents of DOST-STII Library to beneficiaries and students that are far from the area. The task and scope of work for the DOST-I, DOST-STII, and DepEd were also discussed, focusing on system-related problems, the configuration of preloaded STARBOOKS, and monitoring STARBOOKS sites.
Meanwhile, Reynaldo Morales Jr., Administrative Assistant II of the DOST-STII, shared the standard contents and impact of STARBOOKS on the students and beneficiaries.
Since STARBOOKS are preloaded with more content, DOST-STII made it simpler and child-friendly to simplify contents like the Philippine Men & Women in Science, and Nuclear Technology. Ready-to-adopt DOST technologies and K-12 Program are also included in STARBOOKS.
Throughout the orientation, DOST-STII assured DepEd of the availability of DOST technical assistance to ensure effective usage of STARBOOKS which is helpful to students and other beneficiaries in the Ilocos region. On the other hand, Michael John C. Maquiling, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-I, led the DOST-I STARBOOKS Team in assisting DOST-STII during the said training.
For other interested schools or institutions that wish to avail of STARBOOKS, they can email DOST-I at mail@region1.dost.gov.ph or visit the nearest DOST office in their areas. (30)
