The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region II, together with DOST Regions VI, IX, XI, XII, and CAR, jointly conducted the iFWD PH program orientation for the first batch of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The iFWD PH program aims to provide opportunities for OFWs and their families to establish technology-based businesses in their hometowns so that they would no longer be separated from their loved ones. Interested OFWs were asked to send their applications through theiFWD PH’s website (https://ifwdph.dost.gov.ph/).

The orientation, held via Zoom, served as a kickstart activity for the participating OFWs who will undergo a 14-day iFWD training, starting May 4 to June 14, 2021. The virtual training consists of lessons on starting their business ventures, as well as home works, activities, and examinations to capacitate them on the rudiments of running a business. The training will also give them a chance to interact with their fellow batch mates through reports and discussions.

The orientation was done in partnership with the Entrepinoy Volunteers Foundation Inc. (EVFI), a non-profit organization that provides guidance to Filipino entrepreneurs. Fernalyn B. Palacpacof EVFI joined the orientation and discussed the topic about core business development.

Regional directors from DOST, namely Dir. Nancy A. Bantog (DOST-CAR), Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang (DOST-II), and Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga (DOST-VI), inspired the 

OFWs through their messages. The three hardworking directors emphasized the importance of moving forward, having an inspiration to move forward, and choosing to move forward, in their speeches, respectively. 

“Through the iFWD program, nais po naming magbigay ng assistance sainyoupangmatulungankayong mag-jump start sainyongmga ventures… May your dreams and the people around you inspire you to never stop pushing forward in your careers and ambitions,” said Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang.

The webinar was considered successful that initially attracted 135 OFWs across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao; all of whom are aspiring entrepreneurs.
