In coordination with the Kalibo Federation of Civil Society Organization (KFCSO) and the Local Government Unit of Kalibo, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas or DOST Region VI (DOST-VI) recently facilitated an orientation sessionthat focused onthe Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading (SETUP) Program and Packaging and Labeling Services. 

The orientation, held at Municipal Building, Kalibo, Aklan,will help the members of KFCSO in accessing the different programs and projects of the DOST and address the need for technology assistance.

SETUP, one of the flagship programs of the DOST, is a nationwide strategy to address the needs and requirements of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through technology and equipment upgrading, strengthening of innovation capability, increasing productivity, and producing quality products to attain sustainable and inclusive growth in the countryside. 

On the other hand, the Packaging and Labeling Services provides assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the development of package design; technical consultancy for the improvement of packaging system through proper labeling and packaging; and nutrition facts analysis, shelf-life testing and training.

Furthermore, the orientation on Packaging and Labeling Services was presented by DOST's Science Research Specialist II Antonette Donato, focusing on the possible clients and coverage of the program. The lectures on Packaging 101 and Mandatory Labeling Requirements were delivered by DOST'S Science Research Analysts Kay Kristyle S. Cainglet and Faye Camille D. Jimenea, respectively.

To complete the session for the 26 participants, DOST's Science Research Analyst Eunice RaizaPanagsagandiscussed the various programs, projects and services of the department. Likewise, inquiries on the requirements and benefits on Innovation Fund (iFund), Grants-In-Aid (GIA) and Scholarship Program were properly addressed during the said activity.

The orientation concluded with a one-on-one consultation between the DOST staff and participants who expressed their interest in availing the Packing and Labeling Services program and the SETUP iFund. (SSalazar/JJMoleƱo/DOST VI-KMU)
